KEY SPEAKER

Dr Ivy Drake

Dr Drake is a  core surgical trainee and aspiring otolaryngologist, based in the West of Scotland.

Prior to graduating with her MBChB from the University of Glasgow, she completed a BSc. in Biology at Queen Mary University, London.

Passionate about empowering other aspiring Black surgeons, she is an advocate for widening participation in medicine and committed to eradicating racism and sexism in surgery.

She can be found on twitter at @ivymycin and when not in theatre or spoiling her cat, Maya, enjoys exploring Scotland, snowsports and gymnastics.

Dr Ali James

Since graduating from the University of Aberdeen in 2019, Alistair has travelled through a variety of hospitals in the North and West of Scotland. He is currently an IMT2 working towards a career in cardiology and medical education.

Alistair has always been interested in medical education. He has spent time as a clinical teaching fellow and been involved in various courses including the ALS programme and the BHF’s “Heartstart” charity.

He has now developed his own web platform and app for ECG interpretation. The EXG academy course can be found at http://www.exg-learning.com

Dr Emma-Rose Turner

Emma-Rose graduated from the University of Glasgow in 2020 and completed my foundation training in the West of Scotland. She is currently working as a clinical fellow in cardiology at the QEUH with the aim of applying for IMT this year

In 2022, Emma-Rose took up a clinical teaching fellow role in Ayrshire & Arran. She worked across University Hospital Ayr and the QEUH to deliver a varied teaching programme to undergraduates from Glasgow University, alongside working clinically.

Dr Cameron Semple

Cameron graduated from the University of Dundee in 2017.He completed his foundation training in Edinburgh.

After his FY training, Cameron worked for 2 years in Adelaide, Australia. He worked in ED and as a trauma registrar.

In 2021, he returned to the UK to start core anaesthetic training.

Dr Jen Pate

Jen graduated from the University of Dundee in 2017 and stayed in NHS Tayside to complete her Foundation Training, and a 6 month clinical fellow post.

Jen is now in her 3rd year of working as a locum. She will be applying to start IMT training in August 2024

Dr Laura Owler

Laura graduated from the University of Nottingham in 2020. She completed her foundation programme down in Dorset, on the south coast. She then spent a year locumming in Glasgow.

Laura is currently working as a Clinical Fellow on a 6 month placement in Orkney and will be applying for ED training.

She enjoys the outdoors and can often be found swimming, cycling, hiking or paddleboarding.

Dr Alex Hall

Alex grew up in Canada where he carried out his undergraduate followed by a masters degree in neuroscience. He then moved to Ireland to carry out his medical degree at the University of Limerick.

Alex was then matched to the University of Miami and completed an anaesthesiology residency in June 2023. He is currently an obstetric anaesthesia fellow at Jackson Memorial Hospital in Miami.
